Press Release
Cyprian Brady, Fianna Fail TD for Dublin Central, visited Novara’s offices on North Earl Street to accept his dot-ie domain name, www.cyprianbrady.ie in anticipation of their general release on the 31st October. Cyprian was happy to register his personal name and therefore protect himself against identity fraud. The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahearn was once subjected to fraud identity when his domain name was registered by a company who used it for questionable means.

A domain name is an address on the Internet. However, having a dot-ie extension at the end tells the world that the person is located in Ireland, or has a connection to Ireland. Therefore it is unique and there is an element of individualisation or personalisation in having a local Internet address, rather than an anonymous .com address.
Individuals should register their own personal .ie domain name if they are interested in:

- having a personal Internet address or personal web site
- having a personalised e-mail address
- having a personal blog presence on the Internet
- protecting their name on the Internet
- preserving their name for children or grandchildren
- simply exploiting the novelty value of the name.

It will also be the case that a lot of professionals, doctors, accountants, sport personalities etc would like to secure their own name so as to avoid identity fraud. The domains will be granted on a first come, first served basis and documentation will be required in the form of a driver’s licence or an Irish utility bill. The name on the identification must match the domain name, thus maintaining the integrity of the dot-ie.
David Curtin, Chief Executive of the IE Domain Registry had this to say, “. The introduction of personal domain names was first proposed to internet service providers three years ago, but there was little interest due to expected low levels of demand. Since then the broadband take-up and popularity of social networking has created a desire for a personal presence on the Internet, which in turn will have a positive effect on the level of demand for personal dot-ie domain names.”
